Retails shops, offices and other public places tend to be high traffic areas.  When you engage a commercial carpet cleaning company you can expect that the first thing they will do is make a map of the traffic flow in order to clean it out properly or thoroughly enough.  It is to your benefit to follow them as they map out the area and make enquiries on how to maintain the carpets once they have been cleaned.  When you think of cleaning and maintaining the carpet it is important that you look at the layout of the building and how traffic flows through it.

As you can imagine, entryways, break rooms, elevators and main corridors will be areas of high traffic.  That means that you will probably have more dirt on the lobby carpet.  On the other hand, private offices or even the employee cubicles will tend to have lighter traffic.  When it comes to retail shop carpet cleaning, the designated paths will be the areas of heaviest foot traffic and therefore the most dirt.  Once these areas of heavy traffic have been identified they will be mapped out and color coded so that the cleaning schedule can be set.  The 80/20 rule will often apply.  80 percent of your cleaning efforts will be spent on the 20 percent carpet area that gets the highest traffic.

One of the ways that you can maintain your foyer carpet after the cleaning is done and with it the rest of your carpeting, is to have a walk off mat in place where people can wipe their feet.  This mat is a great idea and is quite effective if you are looking for a way to get people to remove, water, debris and dry soil from their shoes before they proceed into the building.  You can also consider having some rugged mats outside to remove or scrap off the dirt and mud on their shoes first.  It is a good idea to ensure that the mats you have in place are vacuumed often as this will keep them from being saturated with the dirt and therefore losing their effectiveness.

Office carpet cleaning will also follow the same preparation.  In order to maintain your office carpets after the cleaning is done you will need to vacuum on a daily basis.  This is the main step when it comes to cleaning and maintaining all carpeting.  Vacuuming will do a good job of removing at least eighty to eighty five percent of all the loose soil on your carpet.
